Change Control
Ticket, approve, implement, rollback — change discipline for $LAB config edits.
Visual · t16_change_control
Change control = planned edits with rollback. Original Cyberlium.
The firewall rule you 'just quickly added' is tomorrow's outage if nobody wrote it down.
Change control ties policy to operations: request, risk review, approval, maintenance window, implementation, test, backout plan. Applies to firewall rules, logging forwarders, GPO, and patch deploys on $LAB. Learn CAB concept at literacy level — even solo lab work gets a one-line change note with date and rollback. Never push config changes to employer or school production without authorization.
1. Change record minimum
What, why, who, when, rollback steps, test criteria.

Command — copy this
ss -tulpn 2>/dev/null | head -10 grep -n . "$HOME/cyberlium-lab/t16-defense/roe.txt" 2>/dev/null; printf 'change: baseline ports logged approved: lab host only ' >> "$HOME/cyberlium-lab/t16-defense/change-log.txt" tail -5 "$HOME/cyberlium-lab/t16-defense/change-log.txt" 2>/dev/null
Primary tools to practice this lesson: grep, ss. Reference sites: Change control (https://www.cisecurity.org/controls); NIST CSF (https://www.nist.gov/cyberframework). Run every command in the box — install first, then the usage lines — only on YOUR lab / program scope.
2. Risk tiers
Standard/pre-approved vs normal vs emergency — different approval depth.
Emergency still gets documented after — blameless postmortem culture.
3. Lab habit
Before altering $LAB forwarder or firewall: write rollback command.
No unauthorized changes on shared lab infrastructure.
4. What you ship: change record template
Minimum change fields + rollback line + unauthorized prod change refusal.
5. What you record before the next lesson
Change template path.
6. Wrong vs right: stranger hosts vs YOUR lab hosts
Worked failure — same MSF word, opposite target. Right never needs a café Wi-Fi or classmate laptop.
- Wrong: Edit shared class firewall without ticket or permission.
- Right: Name change control. Next: policy lab.
Mission: change record draft
1) List six change record fields. 2) Write rollback for one planned $LAB change. 3) Write NEVER unauthorized prod changes.
